Paul Singh – Aldermanic Candidate for Vintry

Time for Fresh Leadership

As a business owner in the Ward at 60 Cannon Street, a recent Common Councillor and the City’s former Policy Lead for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), I have spent a considerable amount of time working with and speaking directly to organisations in Vintry Ward and beyond. I am therefore in a great position to understand the Ward’s current needs and eventually lead it into a thriving ecosystem.

My focus

Combining my knowledge, experience and network, I truly believe that I can tackle the real issues affecting you including:

Championing Business and SMEs

Vintry is home to a rich mix of global firms, small businesses, and growing ventures, all of which play a vital role in the City’s ecosystem. As the former Policy Lead for SMEs, I’ve worked directly with businesses across sectors to understand the pressures they face and the support they need. From promoting access to funding and skills, to connecting firms with City-wide initiatives like Destination City, my focus is on practical solutions, not paperwork. If elected, I’ll be a year-round advocate for the businesses that power Vintry not just during campaigns, but every day

Cycling in Balance

The Cycle Superhighway is a key route through Vintry, supporting active travel but its design raises growing safety concerns. I’ve heard from pedestrians, cyclists, and businesses alike about near misses, poor visibility, and delivery access challenges, particularly around Cannon Street. In a Ward where narrow pavements and high footfall converge, we need a smarter, evidence-led approach. Clearer signage, safer junctions, and small structural changes could improve safety without compromising flow. If elected, I’ll work to ensure Vintry’s streets are not only sustainable, but safe and usable for everyone.

Revitalising the City's Global Future

The City of London’s future won’t be secured by legacy alone. As industries evolve and global pressures grow, we need a balanced approach, backing major institutions while also championing SMEs, startups, and emerging sectors. The City must be a place where business is not just done, but built. That means investing in both digital infrastructure, like 5G and AI, and physical spaces that support mixed use and community. We must also lead with purpose, from green finance to inclusive growth. The City has always adapted and, if elected, I will work with the Policy Chair, Lord Mayor and other stakeholders to make sure it will do so again and again.

People First: Supporting Vintry’s Workers

Vintry is home to a diverse and hardworking community from those powering hospitality and retail on the ground floor to the professionals driving finance, law, tech, and more just above. I’ve made it a priority to speak with workers across this spectrum, listening to what really matters to them: reliable infrastructure, safety, vibrant surroundings, and a sense of connection to the City they help power. Whether it’s signposting support schemes or championing local improvements, I believe our focus must start with people. A successful Ward isn’t just built on institutions, it’s built on those who walk through its doors every day.

Making Vintry a Leading Voice for Safety

Everyone who works, visits, or lives in Vintry should feel secure. Safety is about confidence, not just presence. I’ve long supported the City of London Crime Prevention Association and their Our Safer City initiative, which tackles violence against women and girls through Safe Havens, Ask for Angela, and data-led hotspot monitoring. As a former Policy Lead for SMEs and a business owner in the Ward, I’ve seen the impact of these tools. If elected Alderman, I’ll work to promote smart, low-cost safety measures like staff training and local rollout of initiatives such as Operation Reframe practical steps to make Vintry safer for all.

Modern Infrastructure for a Modern City

A modern City needs modern infrastructure, both digital and physical, to remain competitive and connected. From faster broadband to smarter public spaces, I’ll advocate for investment that supports both residents and businesses. In Vintry, for example, the network of lanes and courtyards adds charm, but it can feel confusing to new workers, clients, and visitors especially around College Hill and Queen Street. Current signage is limited and inconsistent. A smarter approach, using QR-coded routes or a 'Heritage + Hospitality' trail, could improve navigation, increase footfall, and better showcase what Vintry has to offer. It’s not just about big upgrades, it’s about getting the small details right
